Rishi Sunak’s “magic tricks” will not save struggling families from the cost of living crisis they face this winter, the SNP’s Alison Thewliss has said.
The SNP Treasury spokeswoman told the Record that the budget will increase inequality across the UK by taking money away from people with tax rises while holding out the promise of increases in wages.
Thewliss said the chancellor had missed an opportunity to prevent poverty and destitution this winter in what she described as a “cruel” budget.
The Glasgow MP pointed to the example of a foodbank in her constituency where staff are worried people's generosity is being "stretched to breaking point".
