Budget 2009 podcast

Tom Clark and Aditya Chakrabortty are joined by Jackie Ashley, Dan Roberts, and Ashley Seager for a special podcast analysing the political and economic implications of the budget - the first since this recession began.

The panel discuss whether Alistair Darling delivered on his promise to get us out of the downturn and change the political weather. Does the new 50p top rate of income tax signify the end of New Labour? Do the numbers add up as the government try to fill the enormous black hole in public finances? And just what do all the measures contained in the big red book mean for the pound in our pocket - will we feeling poorer as a result?

Post your comments on the blog below, and be sure to listen to our Guardian Daily, Business and Politics Weekly podcasts for the very best comment and analysis on the credit crunch and the political wrangling around it.
