Budding Stobswell entrepreneurs benefit from £2.8million skills development project

New business owners in Stobswell and Lochee are benefitting from a £2.8 million development project.

They are now accessing a network of enterprise support services to drive skills development.

Last December it was announced Dundee, Aberdeenshire and Lanarkshire were to benefit from the cash injection from the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.

The money was awarded to Elevator for its E3 model which exists to provide a network of enterprise support services to drive skills development, increase start-up rates and deliver job creation opportunities.

Its Dundee team is now providing outreach services in Stobswell and Lochee using existing community spaces and their mobile van.

Within the model there are a large number of social media grants, training and digital support available especially for young entrepreneurs who are starting out in their business.

Councillor Lynne Short recenlty met with 2 members of the E3 team and a local business that is benefitting from a Virtual PA.

Another local business will soon begin social media training to enhance their skill-set and increase their customer base.

Councillor Short said: “Stobswell is a funky exciting place at the moment with lots of young entpreneaurs opening their doors.

“I think lockdown forced many of us to think about our futures and where we wanted to go moving forward and due to the nature of the area lots of businesses are popping up and having this extra support on hand is really excellent.

“It is a bit disappointing that from all the bids that we made into the Community Renewal Fund this was the only one that was sucessful and we did not benefit as much as the other areas but perhaps we were not percieved as being a top priority.

“I’m sure that anyone from Stobswell that speaks to the team at E3 will find it incredibly useful and be much more knowledgable about how to be the next Business Dragon.”

If you’re thinking about setting up a business in Dundee, details of the E3 programme can be found here.
