Budding Cambuslang footballer earns first caps for Scotland aged 12 - and scores her first goal

A Cambuslang schoolgirl has landed her first Scotland caps  aged just 12 - and scored for good measure.

Sophia Martin was selected to play for the national team’s under 15-s on Monday night against Wales, despite being the youngest member of the entire squad.

And although the Scots went down to a 2-1 defeat, the Cathkin High youngster was left “buzzing” after her debut in Newport.

She then came off the bench against Wales in the second international between the countries on Wednesday, and was among the scores in Scotland's comfortable 4-0 win.

Proud mum Natalie Hall was also thrilled.

Sophia Martin has been tipped for the top by her coaches (RGR)

She said: “I was over the moon to see her there. She had been called to a training camp and scored in the game there. Then we heard last week than she was in the squad for the Wales games.

“That was brilliant in itself but to start the match was even better. She was buzzing afterwards - it’s amazing when she’s only been playing for three years.

“Me and her dad Steven are so proud of her.”

Sophia has netted this year constantly for clubs sides Hamilton Accies Girls and Rutherglen Glencairn Boys 2006s.
