Liverpool’s Champions League tie at RB Leipzig could be played in Budapest’s Puskas Arena on account of Germany’s ban on all arrivals from areas affected by Covid-19 mutations.
The Bundesliga side, who were due to host Jurgen Klopp’s men in the first leg of their knockout clash at Red Bull Arena on 16 February, had their application for an exemption to their government’s travel restrictions denied.
Visitors from the UK, South Africa, Brazil and Portugal are not permitted into the country until at least 17 February.

The Puskas Arena is the mandated Uefa venue drawn up at the start of the competition to act as a neutral ground.
The body had recently changed its rules for European competition, allowing ties to be switched if required.
Leipzig were informed on Thursday that their request to play the game at their ground was rebuffed. “The Corona Protection Ordinance passed by the German government last Friday provides for only a few exceptions and no special regulations for professional athletes,” a statement read.
“The Federal Police informed the club RB Leipzig today that the described case constellation does not fall under the exceptions.”
The club can still find an alternative stadium, which Liverpool would not be in opposition to, but the match will take place in Budapest as it stands.
The second leg of the last-16 tie is due to take place at Anfield on 10 March.
