MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Hurricane Bud weakened to a tropical storm off Mexico's Pacific coast on Wednesday, the U.S National Hurricane Center said, adding that it should diminish further before hitting the Baja California peninsula late the next day.
On Wednesday morning, Bud was about 270 miles (435 km) south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas on the southern tip of the peninsula, with maximum sustained winds that had decreased to 70 miles (113 km) per hour, the NHC said.
"Although additional weakening is expected, Bud is forecast to still be a tropical storm when it reaches southern Baja California Sur late Thursday or Thursday night," said the hurricane center, which is based in Miami.
The popular tourist resorts and getaways of Los Cabos lie on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.
