Bud Dupree responds to tweet saying Titans fans want to sign him

One of many pass rushers on the open market the Tennessee Titans should be considering this offseason is Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker, Bud Dupree.

Tennessee’s pass rush was among the worst in the NFL last season, totaling just 19 sacks. A talent like Dupree would be an instant upgrade, as he finished with nearly half the amount of sacks the Titans had as a team.

The 28-year-old former first-round pick has 19.5 sacks the past two seasons, including a career-high 11.5 in 2019, and then eight during a 2020 season in which he played in 11 games due to a torn ACL injury.

Former Steelers offensive lineman Ramon Foster recently retweeted a Titans fan who is on board with the team signing Dupree, and the edge rusher responded:

Spotrac estimates that Dupree will land a contract of four years and $72.8 million, which works out to $18.2 million annually.

That sounds about right based on his past production, but one has to wonder if Dupree’s injury will hurt his value a bit. Granted, he’s set to be ready to go by training camp, but it typically takes a player one season to really return to form after such a serious injury, hence the risk.
