TAMPA, Fla. ― Kyle Trask has been all business on the practice field since being drafted by the Bucs, and the financial concerns have now been settled for the former Gators quarterback.
Trask signed a four-year contract worth $5.535 million that includes a $1.385 million signing bonus.
As the final pick of the second round in the 2021 draft, No. 64 overall, Trask didn’t qualify for the Bucs to include a fifth-year team option.
Ultimately, that may work in his favor depending on how long Tom Brady plans to play.
Brady is signed through the 2022 season when he will be 45. Who knows whether he will ready to retire by then, but Trask would only be entering his third year and presumably well-versed in Bruce Arians’ offense.
During Tuesday’s mandatory minicamp, Trask worked on another field with mostly rookies and backups alongside quarterback Ryan Griffin. Brady and backup Blaine Gabbert worked with the starters on an adjacent field to maximize repetitions for all the players.
Rookie contracts are fairly standard and rarely produce a holdout because a limited salary pool is earmarked for each team’s draft class.
The Bucs have only first-round pick Joe Tryon and third-rounder Robert Hainsey, a guard from Notre Dame, who remain unsigned. A deal for Tryon is expected to be reached soon.
