TAMPA, Fla. ― Tom Brady helped put rings on Bucs fingers and he likely is responsible for adding some money to a few bank accounts.
After winning Super Bowl 55, the Bucs increased the salary for head coach Bruce Arians while general manager Jason Licht signed a contract extension, the Tampa Bay Times confirmed Monday. No contract specifics were provided.
In 2019, Arians signed a four-year contract to coach the Bucs. That deal included a fifth-year club option which could keep him with the team through the 2023 season. The term of Licht’s contract was believed to match Arians’, but the Bucs have added additional seasons.
Arians, 68, who won NFL Coach of the Year honors with the Colts and Cardinals, added a Super Bowl victory to his resume in his second season with Tampa Bay.
Licht, 50, came to the Bucs in 2014. He built the talented roster that no only attracted Arians but also Brady, who signed a two-year contract with the Bucs in 2020 after 20 seasons in New England. But until Brady arrived, Licht’s teams had failed to reach the playoffs.
Licht’s drafts have received plenty of scrutiny, but he is responsible for selecting players such as receivers Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Scotty Miller, tight end O.J. Howard, offensive linemen Ali Marpet, Donovan Smith and Tristan Wirfs, linebacker Devin White, defensive tackle Vita Vea and defensive backs Carlton Davis, Sean Murphy-Bunting and Antoine Winfield Jr.
The Bucs begin their mandatory minicamp Tuesday, with training camp set for July 24.
