TAMPA, Fla. — Injured Bucs receiver Chris Godwin didn’t practice for the second day in a row Thursday, increasing the chances of new practice-squad acquisition Breshad Perriman being activated for Sunday’s game in Washington.
Godwin, who had one of his best days as a pro (eight catches, 140 yards, one TD) in the Halloween-night loss to the Saints, is dealing with an unspecified foot injury. Coach Bruce Arians, who doesn’t address the media on Thursdays, is expected to provide an update on Godwin’s status after Friday’s practice.
If he can’t play Sunday, Perriman, a former UCF standout who played on Arians’ inaugural Bucs squad in 2019, could be elevated with fellow practice-squad acquisition Darren Fells. The 35-year-old tight end, who played three seasons (2014-2016) under Arians in Arizona, represents a 6-foot-7 insurance policy while Rob Gronkowski (ribs, back) remains sidelined.
Gronkowski didn’t practice again Thursday but was seen doing sprints in a helmet on a practice field.
The pair’s status for Sunday “hasn’t been determined yet, but I know those two guys well,” Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich said. “I’ve had Darren in Arizona, so I’ve got a good relationship with him. I’ve got a good relationship with (Perriman), so we’ll see. Whatever needs to be done, we’ll just have to do it.”
