Bucs’ Kyle Trask praises former college teammate Anthony Richardson

Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson isn’t the only active NFL signal-caller coming from the University of Florida. He shares that title with Tampa Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask.

Teammates for one season in 2020, both Trask and Richardson were in the quarterback room together at one time. Though it’s a relatively short time period, the pair grew close, and Trask is still confident his former teammate will succeed in the NFL.

When asked about the No. 4 overall pick during Bucs OTAs, Trask had nothing but praise for the new face of the Colts franchise.

Richardson had similar praise for Trask back in March at the NFL combine, calling his former teammate a Gator legend.

“Kyle is a legend,” Richardson said via Pewter Report. “He’s a Florida legend. Just watching him and sitting behind him, he taught me how important it is to wait your turn and how important it is to grind. That guy, he knew everything about the offense. He knew the blocking schemes, the receiver routes, and his sets.

“At one point in time, he was calling plays for himself. The Bucs can definitely expect that from him again because he’s a guy that is great mentally and he has a beautiful arm. I try to implement that in myself. He’s a great guy and they’re going to get that.”

While Richardson will be battling to prove he’s worthy of the starting role for the beginning of the season, the expectation is that he will hold that title at some point in 2023. It’s really only a matter of time.

Trask finds himself in a true battle for the starting role as Tom Brady’s successor in Tampa, competing against former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield, who signed with the Bucs as a free agent this offseason.
