Bucs GM Jason Licht says Tom Brady extension is a ‘possibility’ this offseason

For any other player in NFL history, winning a seventh Super Bowl at the age of 43 would likely be the perfect time to hang it up.

For Tom Brady, it’s just the start of an entirely new journey in his career. The future Hall of Famer already committed to the 2021 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he said “we’ll be back” following the team’s Super Bowl LV victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. To emphasize this point one more time — Brady is 43 and will be 44-years-old by the start of next season.

But, this is the same guy who commits to the idea of playing past the age of 45.

He originally signed a two-year deal with the Buccaneers that netted him $50 million, and the team may even extend that. Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht joined The Rich Eisen Show and discussed the possibility of continuing Brady’s future in Tampa.

“It’s a possibility. He certainly didn’t look like he slowed down any this year,” Licht said, transcribed by MassLive. “So that’s a possibility and we’ll have to see how that goes.”

An extension would clear up money to potentially keep free agents like Chris Godwin, Shaq Barrett and Lavonte David around. Brady wasn’t the only bright spot for the team — Tampa’s defense had a legendary playoff run and the offensive weapons were too good to be true for Brady.

Whether or not Licht spoke with Brady about the extension, he kept that obscure.

“I talk to Tom often,” Licht said. “Probably keep that under wraps for right now, but like I said, I know — it appears that he really had a good time this year winning the Super Bowl and likes our organization, likes our coaches, likes our head coach, ownership, and we certainly love him. So usually when you have those two things going for each other it’s a match made in heaven. So we’d like to keep this going.”
