Bucs expected to visit the White House next week

TAMPA, Fla. ― The Bucs are expected to visit the White House on Tuesday to receive recognition from President Joe Biden for their Super Bowl 55 championship. Players started receiving their invitations Friday.

Details are still being finalized, but it would kick off a whirlwind week of reflection and renewal. The Bucs will have a private Super Bowl ring ceremony for players, coaches, the front office and their spouses in Tampa on Thursday. Players report to training camp for the 2021 season on Saturday, July 24, with the first workout scheduled for the next morning.

It will be the first time a world championship team from Tampa Bay has visited the White House.

After winning Super Bowl 37 over the Raiders in Jan. 2003, the Iraq invasion by U.S. troops ended any possibility of the Bucs visiting the White House.

When the Tampa Bay Lightning won their first Stanley Cup during the 2003-04 season, the next year was marred by a lockout and eventual cancellation of the season.

Last September, when the Lightning won the Stanley Cup again, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented any possible visit to the White House.
