TAMPA, Fla. _ Bucs defensive tackle c revealed Tuesday that he had contracted the coronavirus during the offseason. Vea said his symptoms were mild and he was sick for just a few days.
"It wasn't that bad," Vea said. "I had symptoms, but I think the biggest thing was it just felt like a normal flu to me. I know it's different for everybody else out there, but it really wasn't bad for me. I really didn't have a bad experience with it. I think I had symptoms for three days and got better."
Vea recovered in time to report to camp. Now his main health concern is getting the club off his right hand following a hand injury he sustained while working out during the quarantine.
The 25-year-old former first-round pick is the second known Bucs player to battle the virus in the offseason. Tight end Cameron Brate also had the virus, and recovered in time for camp.
Running backs Ke'Shawn Vaughn, Raymond Calais and Aca'Cedric Ware opened training game on the COVID-19/reserve list, in which a player lands on if he tests positive for the virus or had been quarantined due to close contact with someone with the virus.
Vaughn and Calais are back with the team, and Ware was released after he came off the list. The Bucs currently have no players on the COVID-19/reserve list.
