Bucs coach Bruce Arians fined 50K for striking own player

This is a new one in the vast land of sports fines.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians has been fined $50,000 for intentionally striking his own safety, Andrew Adams, during the Super Wild Card game with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The incident in question:

Arians said he was trying to avoid Adams getting a penalty for pulling opponents out of a pile.

And he has no regrets.

“No, and I’ve seen enough dumb,” Arians said. “You can’t pull guys out of a pile. We just got a big play, great field position, and he’s trying to pull a guy out of a pile, and I was trying to knock him off of that guy so he didn’t get a penalty.”
