Following a heartbreaking loss to the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals last season, the Milwaukee Bucks come into this season with big expectations to win the East and play for an NBA title next June. They kept their core together, although they did lose Malcolm Brogdon. The hope for Mike Budenholzer’s system is that his explosive offensive style is even better in his second season as the head coach and that Giannis Antetokounmpo somehow improves on a season that earned him the MVP award. The Greek Freak has embraced the challenge of becoming even better, and he’s ready to dominate the league once again.
James Harden is back with the Houston Rockets for another season filled with expectations and pressure to deliver. Chris Paul is gone and his new backcourt partner is longtime friend and former teammate Russell Westbrook, who will play the first game of his career for a team other than the Oklahoma City Thunder. Westbrook’s explosive and sometimes unpredictable style is a gamble for Houston, but it gives Harden a type of teammate he hasn’t had since leaving Westbrook and OKC. If things do work out, the Rockets might be simply unstoppable this season. Thursday night will give us a fantastic matchup of two offensive powerhouses.
