Bucks reach deals with guard Matthew Dellavedova, forward Mirza Teletovic

First, the Milwaukee Bucks landed their 3-point shooting power forward in agreeing to a deal with Mirza Teletovic.

Then it was time for the backcourt.

The Bucks reached an agreement on a four-year, $38 million offer to restricted free-agent Matthew Dellavedova on Friday, and the world champion Cleveland Cavaliers have a right to match. But the Cavaliers would be hard-pressed to match the $9.5 million annual salary given luxury tax implications.

Cavaliers star LeBron James signaled it was a done deal when he tweeted; "Congrats to my brother! (at)matthewdelly on his deal. Good luck to you in Milwaukee! Very deserving to you and your family."

The Bucks cannot officially send the offer sheet until July 7, and Cleveland has three days to match.

The 25-year-old Dellavedova was a key figure off the bench during the regular season for the Cavaliers, although he played a more limited role in the playoffs and NBA Finals against Golden State. He was a tenacious defender that sometimes rubbed opponents the wrong way, but that toughness is something the Bucks lacked last season.

Dellavedova also would give the Bucks another ball-handler and decent 3-point shooter to complement Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has taken over the primary ball-handling role for Milwaukee. Dellavedova is a career 40 percent shooter from 3-point range.

Bucks coach Jason Kidd recently said the team has to become a strong defensive squad again after it struggled to stop opponents last season.

In three seasons with Cleveland the 6-foot-4 Dellavedova, a native of Maryborough, Australia, has played in 215 games, including 31 starts. He averaged 7.5 points and 4.4 assists in 76 games last season, including 14 starts, and shot 41 percent from 3-point range.

Dellavedova currently is working out with the Australian Olympic squad and has committed to play in the Rio Games next month in Brazil.

A fan favorite in Cleveland for his hustle and grit, Dellavedova made just $1.2 million last season with the Cavaliers.

An hour or so earlier, the Bucks landed Teletovic, an unrestricted free agent, on a three-year, $30 million contract.

Teletovic played a stellar reserve role last season with the Phoenix Suns and played under Kidd in Brooklyn during the 2013-14 season.

The 30-year-old from Bosnia and Herzegovina appeared in 79 games with Phoenix last season and averaged 12.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in a reserve role. He shot a career-best 39.3 percent from 3-point range while attempting 5.8 threes per game.

His 181 made 3-pointers as a reserve set an NBA record, breaking the mark set by the Indiana Pacers' Chuck Person during the 1994-95 season.

Teletovic's 3-point prowess should help a Bucks team that ranked last in the league in 3-point attempts last season, averaging just 15.6 per game. Milwaukee also ranked last in three-pointers made while averaging 5.4.

Teletovic provides a complement to the driving ability of Bucks starting power forward Jabari Parker and should give the Bucks bench considerably more firepower.

Teletovic played his first three NBA seasons with the Nets and averaged 8.6 points in his one season under Kidd's direction.

He has made just 12 starts in 244 career NBA games but has averaged 18.3 minutes, showing he has been a valuable reserve. Teletovic averaged 21.3 minutes with the Suns last season.
