Buckfast fuelled man hit and pushed partner after she refused to give him vodka

A man attacked his partner at their Hamilton home after she refused to give him vodka.

The town's sheriff court heard that William Graham moaned 'what am I doing to do without drink,' before shoving and punching the woman.

Graham admitted threatening or abusive behaviour and assault at the flat in George Court on December 18.

Scott O'Connor, prosecuting, said the couple had been together for six years.

On the day in question Graham had drunk two bottles of Buckfast wine.

The 30-year-old then asked for, and was given, some of his partner's vodka before switching on music.

Mr O'Connor told the court: "At one point she asked him to put the volume down.

"Later he asked for more vodka and his partner said no. The accused was not happy with this and an argument started.

"This led to Graham pushing her head against the kitchen wall, causing her to bite her lip.

"He continued to push her and punched her to the left eye."

His victim said she was going to call the police and Graham tried to grab her phone and called her names.

The police were alerted by an anonymous caller who had heard the disturbance.

Graham refused to let officers into the flat, saying 'this is my f***ing house and you don't have the right. COVID would not allow it. F**k off.'

He was arrested by the officers who noticed the woman had bruising and swelling to her face.

Sentence on Graham, now of Bellfield Street, Glasgow, was deferred for background reports.

He had his bail continued.
