Buckfast-fuelled knife attack in Paisley left man scarred for life

A thug who left a man scarred for life in a Buckfast-fuelled knife attack has been locked up for more than two years.

Robert Fisher was handed a 30 month jail sentence after he was convicted of the vicious attack on David Miller in Paisley.

Fisher was back in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday alongside Leona Cameron, who also admitted being involved in the violent assault.

Fisher, Cameron and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named, set about Mr Miller on July 6 last year after downing vodka and Buckfast.

During the rammy, the teenager stepped back and pulled a knife from his sock.

He held the blade up at shoulder height, pointed it towards Mr Miller and plunged it into him, leaving him badly hurt and scarred for life.

He struck Miller with the blade on the ribs and the thigh.

Fisher, 22, then began to batter Mr Miller, grabbing him by the clothes, pulling his clothes over his head and raining punches and kicks on his head and body once he was on the ground.

He was rushed to hospital and had stitches inserted into his wounds. He still bears the
scars.

The youngster admitted assaulting Mr Miller to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Even though the teen was the one who used the knife, Fisher and Cameron faced the same charge, with prosecutors claiming they had acted together to assault their victim.

Both Fisher and Cameron, 20, went on trial at Paisley Sheriff Court, with Cameron admitting her guilt during the trial.

Fisher, was found guilty by the jury, ruling he was just as responsible for the injuries Mr Miller suffered as the teenage knifeman.

Fisher gave evidence in his own defence, admitting assaulting Mr Miller, but claiming he had no idea the teenager had a knife.

Appearing for sentencing, Fisher’s lawyer said he accepted he would be going to jail.

He said: “He maintains the view that he had no knowledge of the knife but he accepts his part in the assault.

“He understands that a period of imprisonment is coming his way.”

Cameron, of Argyle Street, Paisley, escaped a custodial sentence, but was placed under supervision.

Her lawyer said she has taken steps to improve her life following the attack.

He said: “She accepts responsibility for her actions.

“She has moved into the Blue Triangle and has found it to be beneficial.

“She has received a lot of support since moving there.”

Sheriff James Spy jailed Fisher for 30 months and placed him on a supervised release order.

The lawman ordered Cameron to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work within ten months and also placed her under supervision for a year.

The teenager is still to be sentenced and will appear at Paisley Sheriff Court later this month.
