Buckfast burgers set to go on sale at Ayrshire supermarket

An Irvine store is set to serve up 'gourmet' Buckfast burgers - after stocking up on a barbecue sauce inspired by the controversial tonic wine.

Bourtreehill Supermarket hope to offer customers the handmade, lean culinary delight through their in-house Quinns Fast Food Kitchen.

Shopkeeper Imran Ali cooked up the the idea after taking delivery of 60 bottles of Buckfast BBQ sauce  - a new condiment launched by Rendalls butchers and booze distributors J Chandler.

And after watching them fly off the shelves he reckons Quinns can come up with a quality burger good enough to satisfy everyone - not just fans of the tonic wine.

He said: "We sold six bottles of the sauce within an hour. Thats what I sell in a week in other condiments.

"Its definitely a unique product as Buckfast have never brought out any products apart from the drink.

"With three percent Bucky in each bottle theres a lot of the public wanting to try.

"We put up a post on Facebook about it and it's got some great attention.

"A few people from England even commented and one person who moved down south wants it shipped down!

"We have a hot food kitchen so was I thinking of doing a Handmade lean gourmet burger with bucky sauce as a three-day special."
