Buckfast and pills driver was 'dancing with both hands' before high-speed crash

A driver was “dancing with both hands” before he ploughed through the middle of a roundabout, a court heard.

Paul Jackson, 35, said he’d been driving at 123mph before the accident.

A partly-empty bottle of Buckfast wine was found in the door pocket of his wrecked and abandoned car.

Stirling Sheriff Court heard that Jackson, who had mixed alcohol with prescription medication, had hallucinated he was being pursued by police on the M80 before exiting at Bannockburn interchange and smashing his Vauxhall Zafira into the roundabout.

Prosecutor Nhabeela Rahmatulla said another driver “noticed the accused was ‘dancing’ with one if not both of his hands – waving his hands in the air”.

Jackson, of Coatbridge, pled guilty to driving dangerously at excessive speed while under the influence of alcohol; driving without insurance; failing to provide a breath specimen; and threatening and abusive behaviour.

Sheriff Wyllie Robertson jailed him for eight months and disqualifying him from driving for 16 months.
