Buckeyes’ punter Drue Chrisman named Big Ten ST Player of the Week

After pinning two punts within the Bearcats five-yard line, Buckeyes’ Drue Chrisman has been named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.

A three-star recruit coming out of La Salle high school in Cincinnati, Ohio, Chrisman joined the Buckeyes in 2016. He red-shirted in 2016 and took over punting responsibilities in 2017.

On Saturday, Chrisman punted three times, averaging 43 yards per punt. He was called upon quickly in the game as an offensive holding call pushed Ohio State into a difficult 2nd and 17.

Eventually being forced to punt, Chrisman pinned Cincinnati on the Bearcats one-yard line. With no room to move, Cincinnati gained just two yards and punted it back. That first drive chaos was because of Chrisman.

Here’s the official release, giving Ohio State their first Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week since 2015.

Punters don’t always have a high impact on the game, but this time, Chrisman was huge. This could be a routine outing for Chrisman, who could be the Big Ten’s best punter.

And he’s already on the Ray Guy Watch List given to the best punter nationally.
