Buckeyes get blown out by Northwestern in baseball

The Buckeye baseball team continues to struggle to find consistency. Against Northwestern in the home Big Ten opener, things were tight and tied up 5-5 until the wheels fell off in the last three innings. The Wildcats scored ten of their thirteen runs in the last three innings to win going away 13-5.

Already up by two runs, the Wildcats scored six runs in the top of the ninth — including a grand slam to put the game out of reach. The Buckeye defense also committed four errors in the field, giving them no chance to hang with a Northwestern offense that got to the pitching staff.

On offense, the star of the day for the Buckeyes was again Dominic Canzone who had three hits in the loss. Ohio State right-handed pitcher Bayden Root took the loss to fall to 2-2.

With the loss, Ohio State falls to 16-14 overall, 2-2 in Big Ten play and needs to start stringing together some solid ball before falling digging itself into a hole it can’t get out of.

The Buckeyes take on Northwestern again Saturday at 3:05 PM at Nick Swisher Field.
