Buckeye shortstop Zach Dezenzo recognized as Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Freshman Zach Dezenzo has acclimated himself to Division I College Baseball well. Not only is he playing fantastic defense, but he’s hit the ground running at the plate as well. He’s close to .300 at the plate, is second on the team in RBIs, and third in home runs.

Even more, he leads all Big Ten freshman in home runs (8) and slugging percentage (.529). Simply put — he’s flat out making a difference in the OSU lineup.

This past weekend went a long way towards adding to the impact he’s having as well. Ohio State went 4-1 and Denzenzo had a lot to do with it, batting .533 (8 for 15) with two home runs, six RBIs, and five runs scored.

And for his efforts, Dezenzo was recognized as the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week.

It’s Dezenzo’s first weekly award, but we have a feeling there will be more coming down the pipe over the next few years.

The weekly recognition is also Ohio State’s second of the week. Griffan Smith was also named the B1G Pitcher of the Week.
