Buckeye Nation lost a legend today as former All-American and national champion, Charles “Chuck” Csuri passed away at 99 years old. Csuri was a phenomenal football player and capped off an extremely successful college football career by being named team captain the year Ohio State won its first national championship in 1942. Csuri was a three-time letter winner at tackle under Paul Brown.
Csuri was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals and likely would have been an excellent professional football player as well, but served in World War II. In addition to being an All-American, Csuri was a war hero earning a Bronze Star for heroism during the Battle of the Bulge.
If you don’t know Csuri from his accomplishments on the football field or in the military then you might recognize his name as “the father of digital art and computer animation” as quoted by Smithsonian Magazine.

Here’s to remembering a Buckeye legend in many ways. He probably deserves more recognition than he got both on and off the field. Rest in peace to a real-life Walter Mitty.
