Buck Henry dead: Hollywood pays tribute to legendary screenwriter after his death aged 89

Hollywood stars have paid tribute to Buck Henry, the screenwriter who penned The Graduate among other films, after his death aged 89.

Henry died at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Health Centrer with his wife by his bedside, one of his relatives has confirmed.

In the wake of the sad news, stars including Sarah Silverman, Patton Oswalt and producer Judd Apatow have paid tribute to the filmmaker.

Writing on Twitter, actor and comedian Silverman shared a vintage snap of Henry alongside the simple message: "Oh man. RIP Bucky Henry."

Oswalt shared a quote from an interview Henry gave with David Letterman while Apatow shared a lengthier post on Instagram:

Posting a picture of himself and Henry at a SXSW panel, Apatow wrote: "Buck Henry was hilarious and brilliant and made us laugh more times than we even know.

"I was lucky enough to be on a panel with him at SXSW and he was so funny.

"He said 'I don’t like to write with people because if they aren’t as funny as me I hate them and if they are funnier than me I hate them.”

"One of the greats," he concluded.

As well as penning The Graduate, Henry also wrote To Die For and previously hosted SNL.
