Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea is a big man. Really big.
He’s listed at 6-foot-4, 346 pounds and would probably be the last person an NFL team would expect to catch a touchdown pass on offense.
That was the Buccaneers’ plan all along.
During Sunday’s game between the Bucs and Falcons, Tampa Bay lined Vea up on offense as an eligible receiver. The Falcons, expecting a run on the play, left Vea uncovered on the play-action fake. It made for the greatest Big Man Touchdown catch in NFL history.
No, really. It was historic.
According to Pro Football Reference, Vea became the heaviest player in NFL history to haul in a touchdown reception. He edged out 345-pound Jonathan Ogden who had two touchdown catches in his NFL career.
That was just the history we needed to witness in a game between two 3-7 teams. Send that football to Canton.
