After less than two weeks on eBay, the winning bid for Bubba Wallace’s wrecked bumper from the NASCAR All-Star Race — put up for auction, in part, by Front Row Motorsports — was a whopping $20,034.
That’s right: Someone is paying more than 20 grand to own the front bumper Wallace and the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet team used during the exhibition race at Bristol Motor Speedway earlier this month. And it’s all for charity.
Back up to July 15, and Wallace was trying to race his way into the All-Star Race and compete for the $1 million prize (which Chase Elliott ended up winning). But during the qualifying event, the All-Star Open, Wallace’s hopes were shattered early after he hit the outside wall of the track when Michael McDowell in the No. 34 Ford made contact with the right rear of the No. 43 car.
Afterward, a furious Wallace dumped his damaged bumper off at the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports team’s hauler. The team then linked up with The NASCAR Foundation to auction the bumper off.
With a total of 63 offers, the bidding ended early Monday afternoon. The $20,034 raised will go to Motor Racing Outreach (MRO), which the foundation described as “providing spiritual support to drivers and their families” and “the center for children who travel with their racing families, providing a safe place to play and learn at the track.”
