Bubba Wallace breaks silence after FBI close case on 'noose' in NASCAR garage

NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace took to Twitter to break his silence after the FBI closed an investigation into a noose being found in his race garage at the weekend.

The 26-year-old is NASCAR's only black driver and competes in the NASCAR Cup series for Richard Petty Motorsports, driving the number 43 Chevrolet Camaro.

During an event at the Talladega circuit in the southern state of Alabama on Sunday, a noose was found in Wallace's stall which prompted an immediate investigation from NASCAR.

On Monday, it was announced that the FBI would open their own investigation into the matter, but closed the case on Tuesday after reviewing their evidence and believing it had been an 'unfortunate misunderstanding'.

And on Wednesday, Wallace took to social media site Twitter to share an emotional message with his fans following the distressing events of the weekend.

"Integrity..something nobody will ever be able to take away from me. God will always test us to show how strong we truly are. Still standing proud and still smiling," he posted.

The incident occurred just weeks after Wallace successfully pushed NASCAR to ban the contentious confederate flag at its tracks and properties.

The racing series made the decision in an effort to distance itself from a checkered past on race amid global protests against the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody.

The decision to ban the confederate flag led to NASCAR Truck Series driver Ray Ciccarelli announcing his decision to quit the series.

And in addition to the noose being found in Wallace's garage, Sunday's event at the Talladega circuit was also marred by a plane flying above the circuit with a banner featuring the Confederate flag and a banner which read: "DEFUND NASCAR."

The race itself was delayed by a day because of storms in the local area.
