The skytrain operator has offered refunds and extra trips to commuters affected by BTS train delays and breakdowns.
Bangkok Mass Transit System announced on Thursday that in the event of future delays lasting longer than 30 minutes not resulting from an unavoidable cause, commuters with single-journey tickets could seek refunds that same day or keep the tickets for future reuse within 14 days.
For prepaid Rabbit cards, the fare will not be deducted but commuters must exit stations through specified gates.
For 30-day passes, commuters will not have their trips deducted but they must leave stations through specific gates. They will also receive two extra trips for each day they suffered a delay.
To compensate for past problems, from June 25 to 27, commuters with single-journey tickets could seek refunds until the end of this month or keep tickets for reuse within 14 days.
For prepaid Rabbit cards, commuters will receive three extra trips. For 30-day passes, holders will have six extra trips.
They must present their cards to apply for the extra trips at BTS stations from July 7 to July 31. The extra trips will be valid for 45 days. Remaining extra trips will be valid for 30 days after the first extra trip is used.
The company plans to launch a smartphone app on Aug 1 which will inform commuters of real-time train problems and congestion at stations, the announcement said.
