K-pop hitmakers BTS have broken the record for the biggest music video premiere in YouTube history.
When the video for their new single “Dynamite” launched, it attracted more than 3 million concurrent viewers, according to YouTube’s live counter, with some reports placing the number at more than 4 million.
While exact figures are still forthcoming, BTS look certain to best the previous record for concurrent views, belonging to K-pop girl group Blackpink.
Earlier this year, Blackpink’s music video for “How You Like That” drew a record-breaking 1.65 million concurrent viewers.
Before this, the record was in fact held by BTS, whose video for “On” debuted to 1.54 million concurrent viewers on the popular video sharing website.
“How You Like That” was record-breaking in other regards, too, setting the record for the largest 24-hour YouTube debut for a music video.
The first-day view count – a staggering 86.3 million – beat the previous record set by “Boy with Luv”, a collaborative single BTS released with Halsey.
“Dynamite” could be on course to break this record too, with the single amassing an impressive 29 million total views at the time of writing, just two hours after the video was released.
It’s been reported that BTS are targeting a first-placed spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with ”Dynamite”.
Despite the group’s massive global success, they have never had a No 1 hit in the US music chart.
