BTS' label Big Hit launch 'I-Land' talent show to find next K-pop superstar

Next month, BTS’ label Big Hit Entertainment are launching their own talent show I-Land to find the next K-pop superstar.

According to the South China Morning Post, the show has been in production for a number of years. Auditions were held in March last year in Seoul, the US, Japan and more, targeting male applicants born between 1997 and 2008.

Actor, director, screenwriter and star of acclaimed neo-noir Dirty Carnival Min Nam-Goong will host, while K-pop singer Rain and rapper Zico are set to be mentors on the show.

Big Hit have created I-Land with media company CJ E&M through their joint venture Belift Lab.

I-Land will launch on 26 June and will be shown on South Korean music channel Mnet.

Last year Big Hit Entertainment announced a new drama series based on the “BTS universe”.

According to Soompi, the record label announced in a press conference that the show will be made in collaboration with Chorokbaem Media, which has produced popular TV dramas including Memories of the Alhambra featuring Park Shin-Hye and Hyun Bin.

The coming-of-age drama will follow the lives of seven boys as they meet each other for the first time. Big Hit said it is planning to cast actors for the show, as the original BTS members will not be starring in the series. It is expected for release in the second half of 2020.
