BT Sport set to lose Premier League rights as part of proposed £583m DAZN takeover

Sports streaming service DAZN is nearing a deal to acquire BT Sport, according to recent reports.

The Daily Star claim that DAZN will buy the British service for an estimated $800 million (£583m), meaning they should also get their footballing rights.

BT Sport currently broadcast a host of Premier League and UEFA Champions League matches in the United Kingdom and according to Reuters, a deal is expected to be reached in the coming weeks following a series of negotiations that became public towards the end of last year.

Still, it is reported that the transaction is yet to be finalised and may still fall through.

American company Discovery INC has also been linked to buying BT, emerging as a rival bidder last month after talks between BT and DAZN were said to have stalled.

They own a plethora of sports networks across Europe, including Eurosport, as well as non-sporting networks, such as the Discovery Channel, and according to the Sunday Telegraph, had suggested forming a joint venture with BT instead of buying it outright.

Discovery is said to still be in discussions, however, DAZN is reported to be leading the potential suitors, as per Reuters' aforementioned report.

A total of 52 Premier League matches will have been shown on BT Sport by the end of the current campaign, with two entire midweek matchweeks broadcast.

Meanwhile, all 351 Champions League and Europa League fixtures will also be shown this season.
