Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes Frank Lampard will be aiming for a top-four finish this season.
Chelsea are currently seventh in the Premier League table, a point behind Arsenal who occupy the final Champions League place.
But following Saturday's win over Brighton at Stamford Bridge, and Monday's 1-1 draw between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford, some people have been backing Lampard's side to claim what looked like an unlikely top-four finish at the end of the season.
And Ferdinand, working alongside former Blues boss Glenn Hoddle and Joe Cole on pundit duty for Chelsea's Champions League clash with Lille, believes the way Lampard is will have him aiming for the top four.
"Me? Top six," Hoddle replied when asked by host Gary Lineker what Chelsea should be aiming for this season.
But Cole quickly added: "After 10 games now, I'm looking at their team, top six is acceptable. But I'm looking at it and thinking I can't see Tottenham or Arsenal finishing above Chelsea.
"So I think maybe the top four is there."
Ferdinand then concluded: "Frank will be going for top four, that is the way he is.
"He is a person who wants to win and achieve, and over achieve. But top-six, I think was the remit at the start of the season."
