BT Sport pundit names what Chelsea star must do to make himself 'undroppable'

BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves believes that Chelsea youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek will become 'undroppable' if he continues to add goals to his game.

The England international midfielder scored the opening goal of the game in the semi-final defeat of Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday. A game that Chelsea eventually won via a penalty shootout.

Loftus-Cheek was unable to take a penalty in the shootout due to being replaced by Ross Barkley in the 86th minute, much to the disappointment of the majority of Blues fans inside the stadium.

Gary Lineker's reaction to Chelsea's penalty shootout win vs Frankfurt sums up the week in Europe

Hargreaves believes that the 23-year-old was a shining light in the Chelsea team against Frankfurt.

"When he was on the pitch, I thought he was Chelsea’s best player, Ruben Loftus-Cheek," he said in his post match analysis on BT Sport.

"He was that driving force in midfield and the Chelsea fans weren’t happy when he went off. This is what he gives you. An Eden Hazard moment of magic, driving from midfield from Loftus-Cheek and we love that about him. Lovely composed finish.

"That’s why he’s in the side, Loftus-Cheek. In terms of numbers, he’s getting goals and assists and he makes a terrific run in there. Hinteregger doesn’t get across but a really cool and composed finish. If he adds more goals to his game, he’s undroppable."

Glenn Hoddle was also full of praise for the midfielder, and was confused by Maurizio Sarri's decision to take him off.

"I couldn’t understand when he was taken off," he said. "Kovacic was on a yellow and you needed a goal at that stage and he’s not going to get you a goal.

Chelsea player ratings: Jorginho and Kepa shine as Chelsea reach Europa League final

"I’ve said it so many times, I would love the manager to look at Barkley and Loftus-Cheek with probably Kante or a holding player - whatever he wants - to sit in there with them. Let’s see if the two young Englishmen can go and play and get more goals and chances.

"Give them that opportunity. He never does. It’s always working it around that one of them comes off."

Loftus-Cheek will get another chance to impress when Chelsea take on Leicester at the King Power Stadium in the final Premier League game of the season on Sunday, before meeting Arsenal in the final of the Europa League later in the month.
