Former Manchester United and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves has backed Tottenham to win a trophy this season following a number of quality signings during the summer transfer window.
Club legend Gareth Bale returned to north London on a temporary basis from Real Madrid, with defender Sergio Reguilon permanently joining from the Spanish giants.
Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are another pair of new recruits that have featured frequently for Spurs this season, signing from Wolves and Southampton respectively.
Hargreaves believes that Jose Mourinho's desire to add such quality to his ranks has put the club in good stead to end their hunt for a first major trophy since 2008.
"I think he took this job on because he thought he could win a trophy," Hargreaves told BT Sport ahead of Tottenham's UEFA Europa League tie against Royal Antwerp, which Spurs lost 1-0.
"Maybe even last season, it didn’t work out, but he’s got a squad now with great depth and quality players, one of the best front threes around. I think they’re gonna win a trophy this season."
Mourinho made nine changes to the side that beat Burnley in the Premier League on Monday evening, bringing the likes of Bale, Reguilon and fellow new recruit Carlos Vinicius into the starting line-up for Thursday's Europa League match.
But it did not work out for Tottenham as they lost out 1-0 in Belgium, with their unbeaten run away from home coming to an end.
Spurs got off to a winning start in last week's Group J opener as they hit four against Austrian outfit LASK without reply.
They return to domestic action on Sunday as Brighton and Hove Albion make a short trip to the capital, before their third Europa League test of the season against Ludogorets next Thursday.
