BT Sport host Darrell Currie slams Neil Doncaster over 'showing Scottish football love' jibe

BT Sport host Darrell Currie has slammed SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster for his criticism of the network's coverage of Scottish football.

Scottish Premiership broadcasting rights are switching exclusively to Sky Sports next season in a deal brokered by Doncaster to the tune of £160m.

But Currie, the host for BT's Scottish games, has hit back at the Englishman for claiming broadcasters “haven’t given Scottish football the love they show other leagues”.

The presenter said on Twitter: "Totally disrespectful from Doncaster here.

"To suggest BT Sport haven’t given the SPFL the "love they show other leagues".

"Absolutely pathetic - we’ve given everything to our coverage. Also, he’s told us in person how much he’s enjoyed our work. Pathetic."

Emma Dodds, a reporter on BT Sport's Scottish football programming, added: "Couldn’t disagree with this more. @btsportfootball has worked tirelessly to showcase Scottish football in the best possible light - devoting endless hours of work in the process.

"Disrespectful from Neil Doncaster. Not having these comments. Interested in the viewers’ opinion..."

Sky's bid is worth around £30million per year in a large increase in broadcasting revenue.

Speaking on the Price of Football podcast, Doncaster said: “I think we will see the Scottish game given the profile and coverage it deserves next year by Sky Sports.

“2009 was the last time we had an exclusive partner. Since then rights have been shared so it’s perhaps no surprise the broadcasters haven’t given it the love they show other leagues.

“I’m confident we will see a sea change in the approach with Sky taking up the reigns exclusively."
