BT Sport apologises to FA Cup viewers after Newcastle United fans' chants to Robbie Savage

BT Sport apologised to viewers of the FA Cup clash between Rochdale and Newcastle United, following chants from the travelling supporters directed at Robbie Savage.

The 45-year-old former midfielder was part of BT Sport's commentary team for the clash against the League One side, alongside Peter Drury.

With the match taking place at Rochdale's Spotland Stadium, the facilities were not the same as at a Premier League club - which meant that the commentators were sat right amongst the Newcastle fans.

Prior to Miguel Almiron firing Steve Bruce's side ahead, Newcastle fans directed their attentions towards the former Leicester City and Derby County midfielder.

They began by chanting 'Robbie Savage is a w*nker', which forced the apology from BT Sport as the chants were clearly heard during their coverage.

"We apologise for the bad language for the supporters, we are right among them as you can probably hear," Drury said during the coverage of the first half.

Following the apology, Newcastle fans then started chanting that Savage was 's*it scared of Shearer', referencing a clash between Savage and the Newcastle icon during the pair's playing days.
