BT landline bills could increase from September, according to Money Saving Expert

Many BT customers could face a bill hike from September 1.

According to the Money Saving Expert, BT is moving 1.3 million of its home phone customers to its Unlimited Minutes plan.

And it will mean those people who are on landline-only should have the option of making calls to landlines and mobile phones at any time.

But it may mean some customers may see an increase in their bills by up to £54 a year, the Daily Star has reported.

If you are affected, you will receive a letter to inform you of the changes.

The Money Saving Expert website states: “Customers on a variety of legacy landline-only plans which don't include calls to mobiles will be moved to its 'Unlimited Minutes' plan.

“This costs £15/mth and gives customers unlimited calls to UK landline number or UK mobile, day or night.”

The website adds: “BT says affected customers pay at least £10.50/mth at the moment, so the maximum price hike will be £4.50/mth - or £54/yr.

“However it says for many the price increase will be less, and after factoring in what customers currently typically pay on out-of-allowance calls, it estimates the average net price rise will be £1.83/mth.

“Crucially, all these costs are just for the calls package you're on - they DON'T include line rental, which is typically a further £20.20/mth.”
