BT 'effectively' buys InLink out of administration

BT has bought a Manchester-based communications service provider InLink for an undisclosed sum after it went into administration last year.

InLink, established in 2017, provides free Wi-Fi, access maps, directions, and USB charging to nearly half a million people across the UK every week through its kiosks.

Terms of the deal mean all 494 units across the country will come under the full ownership of BT.

The acquisition comes after Sarah Bell and Steven Muncaster of global advisor Duff & Phelps were appointed joint administrators on November 26.

Mr Muncaster said: “By agreeing to buy the InLink units which it doesn’t already own, BT has effectively taken InLink Limited out of administration, ensuring that existing InLink services continue to operate as normal – including access to the UK’s fastest free public WiFi, free phone calls, mobile device charging, a 999 calling button and an app to contact charity helplines.

“This is good news for users of the service throughout the country.”

DLA Piper’s Manchester office acted on behalf of the Joint Administrators on the transaction.
