In 2012 BT launched BT Digital Champions, in association with the children’s charity The Transformation Trust, to encourage young people across the UK to share their digital skills with older generations.
Each student taking part volunteers to spend at least an hour with someone in their local community, teaching them the basics of using a computer and getting online: how to connect to the internet, how to find a website and how to send an email. This makes a huge difference to the lives of people in their neighbourhood.
Schools that take part in the programme can apply for tickets to Rock Assembly – the loudest and most glamorous end-of-term music extravaganza - with some of the biggest acts around, as featured in the video above.
“An incredible experience”
St Mary’s High School Cheshunt helped 3,000 people get online and were announced winners of BT Digital Champions 2014 at the Wembley Arena celebration. One of their volunteers, Emily, gave her thoughts on BT Digital Champions and Rock Assembly.
