Last weekend saw BT buildings around the world turn off their lights in support of the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Earth Hour.
The initiative encouraged people in six continents – covering 24 time zones – to turn off their lights for 60 minutes at 8.30pm local time on Saturday 28 March, in a show of support for protecting the planet.
BT got behind this environmental movement for the fifth year in a row. The company turned off the lights in 30 buildings across the UK, including London’s BT Tower, as well as many other buildings in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.
Managing director of BT’s corporate services, Martin Steele, explained: “We were proud to once again support WWF’s Earth Hour by switching off to save energy around the world. This included BT sites in New York, Dallas, Rome, Madrid, Sydney and Tokyo.”
More than 1,000 businesses and organisations across the UK got involved with their own Earth Hour events, with 28,000 people sharing their plans on Earth Hour’s interactive map. HRH Princes Charles showed his support with a special video message, alongside many other high profile supporters including Ban Ki-Moon, Jared Leto and Andy Murray.
