LUCKNOW: BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday demanded reforms in the police force in the state after the custodial death of a dalit sanitation worker in Agra and said a party delegation led by Gayacharan Dinkar had been sent to meet the grief-stricken family.
“The death of a dalit sanitation worker in Agra, while he was in police custody, is an extremely unfortunate incident. The party delegation that has been sent will meet the family so that we can help ensure punishment for the accused and justice to the victim,” Mayawati said.
Mayawati said that after the recent killing of a businessman by police in Gorakhpur, the death of the sanitation worker in Agra in police custody raises serious questions on the BJP government in state.
“The government needs to urgently bring reforms in the police force. It should also take action against the police personnel who were responsible for both the deaths,” she added.
