BSF seizes heroin worth Rs 6 crore, arrests 1 in Mizoram

SILCHAR: In a joint operation with the Mizoram excise and narcotics department, BSF troops seized a huge quantity of drugs and apprehended one person from Kolasib in Mizoram on Friday, after receiving a specific tip-off.

A BSF Mizoram and Cachar Frontier spokesman at Mashimpur informed that a BSF intelligence team of 90 battalion and the Mizoram state excise and narcotics department carried out a joint search operation at Chhinluang village, along NH-306, in Kolasib district in Mizoram and seized 65 'Hawngs' (local name for packets containing about 10-15 grams of heroin).

A total of 808.6 grams of heroin, worth Rs six crore in international market, was seized while one person was arrested in connection with the case. The individual, identified as Ramneithanga (47), is a resident of ChhimVeng at Vairengte in Kolasib district. The apprehended person, along with the seized drugs, were handed over to the Mizoram excise and narcotics department for further legal action, the spokesman added.
