CHAMARAJANAGAR: Pained by the exit of BS Yediyurappa as chief minister of Karnataka, a youth in Chamarajanagar district's Gundlupet village died by suicide.
The 35-year-old deceased was identified as Ravi aka Rajappaa.
Chamarajanagar police are not supporting the claim saying there is no evidence in this regard and investigation is on to verify exact cause for his extreme step.
Villagers claim that Ravi, a staunch follower of Yediyurappa and a local BJP unit head, took the extreme step out of dejection after Yediyurappa stepped down as CM.
He had expressed his pain about the development with friends and relatives the previous evening.
According to Gundlupet police, he took the extreme step early on July 27 at his bakery in Bommalapura village, some 230km away from Bengaluru. His body was dangling from a rope when the workers came to work.
Gundlupet MLA CS Niranjan Kumar, a BJP functionary, in his facebook post, too has claimed Ravi, an active party worker, supposedly ended his life upset with the resignation of BS Yediyurappa as CM. Niranjan has appealed to the public not to get emotional over developments and take any hasty decision.
Caretaker CM BS Yediyurappa too has tweeted appealing to his followers not to take any extreme step. Peaks and valleys are common in politics. No one should take life over any latest political development. The news of the death of Rajappa aka Ravi has pained him, Yediyurappa said.
KS Sundar Raj, additional deputy superintendent of police, Chamarajanagar, said the death of Ravi is being rumoured as the outcome of resignation of BS Yediyurappa as CM. As of now there is no evidence found to substantiate the claim. We have taken up investigation and probing from different angles to know the cause of his extreme step.
