Bryson DeChambeau said Saturday at The Northern Trust that he felt unfairly “attacked” after a few clips of him taking several minutes to hit shots went viral.
In DeChambeau’s second round, he was caught on video carefully considering an 8-foot putt for more than two minutes before he finally hit the ball. Many PGA Tour and European Tour players called out DeChambeau on social media, but DeChambeau defended himself to reporters, and tried explaining that since he walks faster to his ball than most pros, he should get more time over his shots.
Justin Thomas, who played alongside DeChambeau on Friday, wasn’t buying his excuse.

“Walking to your ball really quickly and not starting your process until it’s your turn, it’s defeating the purpose…. I like Bryson, but he’s a slow golfer.”
DeChambeau was reportedly miffed at Brooks Koepka over his comments on slow play and confronted Koepka’s caddie on Sunday. DeChambeau said that he an Koepka had a discussion about the issue, and that he wanted to “clear the air,” per Golf.com.
DeChambeau certainly isn’t the only slow player on Tour – as he’s repeatedly pointed out – so it’s a bit unfair to him that he’s been singled out by fans, but his initial assertion that he isn’t doing anything wrong only added fuel to the fire. On Monday, after he recorded a T-24 finish over the weekend, DeChambeau promised that he would try to improve his pace of play in an Instagram post.
