Masters: How did Bryson DeChambeau’s incredible second shot on 18 not go in?

The late afternoon groups in the first round of the Masters put on an absolute show down the stretch Thursday at Augusta National and leading the way was Bryson DeChambeau.

The 25-year-old, who plays with a unique set of clubs that are all the same length, racked up an incredible nine birdies on his round and finished with a 6-under 66. He’s tied for the lead with three-time major champ, Brooks Koepka.

But it should have been a 65 because his second shot from 196 yards into the par-4 18th rolled up the green, clanged off the flagstick, and somehow didn’t go in

You tell me how this ball didn’t fall into the hole for eagle:

Just unbelievable. DeChambeau couldn’t see what happened from where he was standing but he could only laugh when he saw it during a post-round interview.

DeChambeau has been a big proponent of the new rule that allows you to keep the flagstick in while you’re putting and it’s something everybody made a joke about after:
