Bryson DeChambeau had a savage retort after Phil Mickelson mistakenly thought his drive was longer

There was a brief moment on Wednesday where 51-year-old Phil Mickelson thought he drove his ball further than yoked-up Bryson DeChambeau. As Mickelson walked down the fairway during a warmup round for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, he thought his ball might have been closer to the pin.

“Oh is this not yours here?” Mickelson asked DeChambeau. It wasn’t. “See, that’s my problem. I speak too soon. You got me so excited.”

“Yeah and I mishit mine, too, so…” Dechambeau said.

“No, no, no,” Mickelson said. “Oh my goodness. I hammered that, too.”

DeChambeau didn’t have to rub in it. But he did. Because of course he did. He claimed he didn’t make great contact — and still outdrove one of Mickelson’s best efforts. Just brutal.

I guess warmup rounds can get a little competitive.
