Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed are set to join the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series with an announcement 'imminent', according to reports . The rebel breakaway circuit will finally kick off this week, with the inaugural event taking place at the Centurion Club just outside of London.
The new series - dubbed the 'Saudi Golf League' - has sent shockwaves around the world of golf, especially over recent days in the build-up to it's opening event on Thursday. The circuit is now set to catch the attention of the golfing globe once more, with two of the sport's biggest stars in DeChambeau and Reed set to join on 'multi-million dollar deals' - according to the Telegraph.
The 2020 US Open champion and the 2018 Masters winner will link up with the likes of Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia in signing up for the controversial eight-tournament series.
The signing of DeChambeau in particular is yet another landmark move from the LIV Golf hierarchy - led by former world No. 1 Greg Norman. The American is undoubtedly one of the biggest, and most talked about names in the world of golf for his life both with a golf club in hand, and without.
Like many others - including Johnson - DeChambeau had previously pledged his allegiances to the PGA Tour back in February. The 28-year-old said: "While there has been a lot of speculation surrounding my support for another tour, I want to make it very clear that as long as the best players in the world are playing the PGA Tour, so will I.
"As of now, I am focused on getting myself healthy and competing again soon. I appreciate all the support.” DeChambeau has endured a stop-start campaign in 2022 after suffering from a hand injury throughout the year. His fitness issues have seen him miss four successive cuts since the end of January, including the Masters.
The American star also missed out on the weekend at last week's Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village, in his first outing since his disappointment at Augusta back in April.
The injury issue also saw the 2020 US Open champion miss out on the second major of the season last month, after withdrawing from the PGA Championship at Southern Hills before a ball was even hit.
