Bryntirion Comprehensive sends GCSE and A-level students home after five positive Covid tests

Pupils in two year key exam year groups at a Bridgend secondary school have been sent home to self isolate after five positive Covid-19 tests were confirmed.

Students in Years 11 and 13 at Bryntirion C omprehensive School will not return to their classrooms until after the Christmas break on Tuesday, 5 January, to allow them to self-isolate.

There have been two positive cases in Year 13 and three in Year 11.

Bridgend County Borough Council’s cabinet member for education Charles Smith said: “To allow pupils who have come into contact with those who have tested positive to self-isolate,the decision has been taken to revert to home learning for these two year groups.

“Parents and carers have been informed of the situation, and teachers at the school have setwork for students to access digitally while at home.”

The news follows the closure of a primary in Bridgend after cases there.

Croesty Primary School in Pencoed will be closed for at least the first part of this week as several staff are having to self-isolate as a result, Bridgend Council said.
